On the morning of October 12, 1912, a bandit robbed the bank of J. Harvey Comer in Prue. The criminal forced Comer to load up a heavy bag of silver coins and carry it a half mile into the woods where his horse was waiting – a horse which he had stolen the night before from a nearby ranch. The following day this rancher spotted the bandit riding his horse, and a shootout ensued in which the thief was killed.

This thief was later identified as the notorious bandit Walter Jarrett. While about $2,000 was found on Jarrett's body at the time of his death, this amount did not include the bag of silver coins. It's thought that he stopped along the way and buried them somewhere near Prue on the north side of the Arkansas River, and to this day the treasure has never been found.
