🐎 This Kentucky Derby Day, we're celebrating Osage County's own legendary champion—Black Gold, the pride of Oklahoma!
Over a century ago, Rosa Magnet Hoots, an Osage woman from Osage County, fulfilled a promise to her late husband Alfred Hoots, who had always dreamed of breeding their mare, Useeit, with the famed racehorse Black Toney. Alfred passed away in 1917, but fate stepped in when oil was discovered on the Hoots' property soon after, providing Rosa the means to honor Alfred’s wish.
In 1921, Black Gold was born. Just three years later, in 1924, he thundered across the finish line at Churchill Downs, claiming victory at the Kentucky Derby by a thrilling half-length, finishing in just 2 minutes, 5.20 seconds.
