Lovers of classic westerns can...

Lovers of classic westerns can explore the life and work of one of the genre's biggest stars at The Ben Johnson Cowboy Museum in Pawhuska. This 10,000-square-foot facility is a one-of-a-kind treasure trove of memorabilia and art detailing the career of the legendary cowboy, actor, and Osage County hometown hero Ben "Son" Johnson.

Born in 1918 in Foraker, Johnson started off as a rodeo star, then found work as a stuntman and riding double in several Hollywood westerns. He eventually moved up to starring roles in the films of famous directors like John Ford and Sam Peckinpah, and his role in 1971's The Last Picture Show even won him that year's Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actor.

Visitors to the Ben Johnson Cowboy Museum on 6th Street in downtown Pawhuska will find everything from a collection of Johnson’s personal belongings and movie memorabilia to paintings and sculptures by renowned western artists John D and Cameron Free, as well as artifacts like rodeo championship belt buckles from other famous Osage County cowboys.
